Kill SPAM dead

Our apologies to Hormel, but SPAM sucks. Of course, we’re not really talking about the delicious mystery meat many of us were forced to endure in everything from eggs to ice cream, thanks mom. No we’re talking about blog comment spam.

It seems as soon as Al Gore invented the internet, someone created blog spam. What? Al Gore didn’t….oh well you get the point, spammers are the bane of every blog’s existence. But not here on OutLoudBlogs baby! That’s right we’ve got the tools to keep those spamholes (made up word) away from your blog.

Our Defense Against SPAM
Each OutLoudBlog comes with Typepad’s Anti-Spam protection installed and automatically working to block SPAM before it reaches your comment moderation queue or inbox.

Manage SPAM
If you receive an email informing you there’s a comment that needs moderation or you just want to check your SPAM queue, you can access it from your blog’s dashboard.

  1. If there are comments in your SPAM queue you’ll see it noted on your dashboard as follows:

    TypePad-AntiSpam-450x239

  2. Click on the link highlighted in blue to access your Caught SPAM queue.
  3. In your Caught SPAM queue you’ll be able to (1) delete the comment, (2) de-spam the comment or do nothing at all in which case the comment will be automatically removed from the Caught SPAM queue in 30 days.

Note: Comments in your Caught SPAM queue will not show under your blog’s comments unless you de-spam the comment.

Visual toolbar adds color and style

“So how do I make my fonts a different color or make text bold within my blog posts?” After someone starts blogging, that question comes faster than….i don’t know, than that person who comes fast. I can’t be witty all the time.

Visual toolbar
We’ve all used Microsoft Word before, right? If you haven’t, good god, maybe you need to go Amish. For the rest of us there’s the visual toolbar with Word-like styling.

  1. From your dashboard, select Posts –> Add New.

    dashboard-post-add-new

  2. On the right hand side there are two tabs, Visual and HTML. HTML stands for hypertext markup language, blah…it’s just the language used by the web sites, don’t worry about it.

    visual-html-tabs

  3. When selected the Visual tab reveals a new toolbar at the top of the Add New Post box with Word-like styling buttons.

    visual-toolbars

  4. Highlight the text you want to apply a style to.

    highlight-the-text

  5. Select the style from the visual toolbar you want to apply to the highlighted text.

    color-font

  6. Voila

    text-red

It’s really that simple, express yourself!

Launching OutLoudBlogs

We have been anticipating this day for a few months now, it’s the day we are able to launch the web’s only exclusive blogging community for gay/bi men.

Our vision is to create the most user-friendly blog network for gay and bi men, without all of the trappings of a social network. Simply put it’s for guys who like guys but aren’t looking for a trick. We welcome all opinions except those that violate our terms of service; things such as child porn, hate speech, etc.. you can read up on our terms of service.

We are trying to reach the widest audience possible so we do not permit adult content either, shirtless guys are fine and even encouraged, just hold off on the nudity.

Right now it’s free to join and new bloggers have 100+ themes and four plugins to customize and extend the capabilities of their blogs. In the coming days we will be adding several more plugins and updating and refining the support system and FAQs.

The staff @ OutLoudBlogs!
