First of all, we really want you to be super successful, so believe us when we say that a little planning goes a long way. So take a minute to answer these simple questions to determine if blogging is right for you:
- Do you enjoy spending time surfing the web?
- Do you enjoy writing, creating videos or taking photos?
- Are you passionate about a topic or just opinionated?
- Can you commit at least a few hours per week to blogging?
- Are you willing to learn?
-
If you answered mostly in the affirmative then blogging is right for you, so let’s get crackin!
Planning Your Blog Step One: Determine what type of blog you’re starting.
Some common blog types include photoblogs, news or gossip blogs, food blogs, political blogs, videoblogs, or personal blogs.
Planning Your Blog Step Two: Brainstorm
Taking the first step will be the hardest but once you’ve got the blog rolling it will be hard to plan properly for it’s growth, so it’s best to do so simple brainstorming first.
A good exercise to get your brainstorming session started is to set a timer for a minimum of 25 minutes. In that 25 minutes, record all the words and ideas of the things you are passionate about.
Planning Your Blog Step Three: Group Your Thoughts Into Categories
Categories are like the outline of your blog, don’t worry too much about what categories are right now, but take your list from your brainstorming session and organize the list into groups.
Say for example I’m passionate about Politics, I may be able to narrow my focus from dozens of words and ideas into a few simple categories: Political News, Elections, Political Parties (subcategories – Democrats, Republicans, etc..) Political Pundits, etc…
Don’t let us discourage you from getting started, but a little bit of planning will make things much easier when your blog feels the vibration of a traffic Tsunami.
Once you’ve narrowed your focus into specific categories you’re ready to move onto to an Introduction to WordPress.
